A sit-in camp at the University of Washington was evacuated by agreement between the demonstrators and the administration
It was decided to evacuate a sit-in camp at the University of Washington in Seattle, USA, after the demonstrators and the university administration reached an agreement.
The protesters agreed to evacuate the camp by 3 p.m. on Monday and not to re-establish it, according to a press release issued by its organizers on Friday.
Under the agreement, officials agreed to fund at least 20 scholarships for Palestinian students displaced from Gaza, and the university will also help faculty members pursue academic relations with Palestinian universities.
Organizers also said the university pledged to be more transparent about its investments in companies such as Boeing, major arms manufacturers, and companies in Israel.
Camp spokesman Chu Ragin said their representatives met with university officials, including President Anna Marie Kauchi, on Friday morning to reach an agreement.
Ragin said that the protesters plan to use other methods in the future to pressure University of Washington officials to meet their demands, such as cutting the university's financial and academic ties with Israel.
The Seattle Times quoted him as saying, "We have a lot of history to draw from and we have a long future to look forward to in terms of the liberation struggle."
