Israeli security leaders: The war has reached a dead end

The Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that the leaders of the security services concluded in a meeting a few days ago that the war in Gaza had reached a dead end.

The newspaper said that the leaders of the security services agreed during their meeting 11 days ago on the priority of recovering the detainees, and pointed out that the meeting was described as decisive and constituted a turning point in the Israeli position regarding the exchange deal with the Hamas movement.

Yedioth Ahronoth indicated that the meeting included Defense Minister Yoav Galant, the chiefs of staff, the Shin Bet, the Mossad, and the person responsible for the negotiations file.

The newspaper reported that officials concluded that the war had reached a dead end in light of the United States not supporting an operation in Rafah, and indicated that officials concluded that the results coincided with the impossibility of reaching an agreement on the northern front without calm in Gaza.

The Israeli newspaper confirmed that the return of the detainees would be in exchange for the return of the Palestinians to the northern Gaza Strip without conditions and withdrawal from the Netzarim axis.

It stated that officials saw that the army was not fighting an actual war in Gaza, and that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israeli Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir were ignoring this fact, and stressed that Israel had lost two basic advantages during the war: American support and street unity.

Yesterday, Saturday, a delegation from the Hamas movement and Qatari and American officials arrived in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, to participate in ceasefire negotiations and the exchange of prisoners. In return, Israel refused to send its delegation.

At a time when pressure is increasing from inside and outside Israel on Netanyahu to conclude a deal with Hamas, he insists on rejecting it, stressing his insistence on continuing the war and invading Rafah, while the Hamas movement places stopping the war as a basic condition for any agreement.

Members of the War Council and the Israeli government accuse Benjamin Netanyahu of insisting on continuing the war for personal gain.
