Türkiye confirms its firm support for Palestine's request for full membership in UN
Turkey's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Ahmed Yildiz, affirmed his country's firm support for Palestine's request for full membership in the United Nations.
This came in a speech during a meeting held on Wednesday, in the United Nations General Assembly, after the United States of America used its veto power last month against a draft resolution demanding Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations.
Yildiz said: “We affirm our firm support for Palestine’s request for full membership in the United Nations.”
He called on the international community to urgently discuss the Palestinian issue by recognizing the basic rights of the Palestinian people.
He added: "Turkey believes that the use of veto power in the United Nations Security Council should not hinder the legitimate requests of the Palestinian people, and that this situation should not prevent an immediate ceasefire."
