Arab League calls on the Security Council to take a decision to ensure Israel's compliance with the ceasefire in Gaza

The Arab League Council once again called on the UN Security Council to adopt a resolution, under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter, that guarantees Israel, the occupying power,’s compliance with the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the entry of humanitarian aid, and forces it to stop its aggression and provide protection for our people.

This came during the conclusion of the work of the extraordinary session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the level of permanent delegates, headed by Mauritania, held at the headquarters of the General Secretariat, in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, today, Wednesday, at the request of the State of Palestine, and the support of all member states, regarding the continuation of the crimes of Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, and the repercussions of the American “veto” in the Security Council against the State of Palestine obtaining full membership in the United Nations.

The Council denounced the United States’ use of the veto, “which contradicts the responsibility of the United Nations towards the Palestinian issue, and demonstrates America’s failure to fulfill the requirements and foundations of peace, security and stability in the region, and its inconsistency with its declared positions in support of the two-state solution, and with international law and relevant international legitimacy resolutions.” Including Security Council Resolution 1515 of 2003.”

The Council called on the United States and the European Union countries to stop exporting weapons and ammunition, and to stop funding the production of drones, which are used by Israel, the occupying power, in the crime of genocide against the Palestinian people, including the killing of tens of thousands of Palestinian civilians, most of whom are children and women, and the destruction of Their homes, hospitals, schools, universities, mosques, churches, infrastructure and all their capabilities.”

He called on, “The United States to review its biased positions towards the Israeli occupation, which prevent saving the chances for peace, implementing the two-state solution, and exercising the Palestinian people’s legitimate and inalienable rights, most importantly their right to self-determination and embodying the independence of the State of Palestine on the Palestinian land occupied in 1967, with Jerusalem as its capital.” .

The League Council called on “international justice mechanisms to conduct an independent investigation into the mass graves that were uncovered in the Al-Shifa and Nasser medical complexes in the Gaza Strip, from which hundreds of martyrs’ bodies were recovered, as well as the deliberate targeting of specific groups such as medical and international staff, journalists, university professors, children, and women.” To make the Gaza Strip an unforgettable place to live in.”

It called on "all countries that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine to quickly recognize it in order to save the chances of peace and achieve security and stability in the region and the world, and to welcome the position of the countries that voted in favor of Palestine obtaining full membership in the United Nations" and to extend thanks to the countries that announced recognition. With full membership of the State of Palestine in the United Nations.”

The League Council called for “supporting UNRWA and protecting it from Israel’s plots to liquidate it, welcoming the resumption of some countries’ contributions to the agency, and calling on countries that had frozen their support to resume this support, especially after the independent review of UNRWA’s work revealed the falsity of the Israeli allegations against it, and confirmed the agency’s neutrality and professionalism.” It cannot be dispensed with or replaced.”

The Council condemned "the continuation of the Israeli aggression and crime of genocide against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip in various criminal forms, including subjecting Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip to starvation, practicing forced displacement against them, and the systematic destruction of all forms of life in the Gaza Strip, and warning that the Israeli occupation army intends to invade... The city of Rafah will mean a new massacre of the Palestinian people, and therefore Israel bears a major political and criminal responsibility for it, and that this will lead to the situation detonating beyond control, which will constitute a heinous crime added to the crimes of Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.”

The League Council condemned “the continuation of the widespread crimes of Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, the raids on the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and attempts to desecrate it, the systematic Israeli violations of the existing legal and historical status in the city of Jerusalem and its sanctities, and the escalation of terrorism by Israeli colonizers, the demolition of homes, and the burning and sabotage of farms and property.” And the arrest of thousands of Palestinians in inhumane conditions.

It called on the international community to implement the option of uniting for peace in the event that the Security Council continues to be unable to take appropriate measures to protect the Palestinian people, and to request the Council of Arab Ambassadors and the missions of the League of Arab States abroad to work to achieve the contents of this resolution through the foreign ministries and relevant agencies in the accrediting state. and their accredited organizations.

The Council also requested the Secretary-General to follow up on the implementation of the decisions issued by the session and to submit a report to the Council at its next session.

The Council heard an in-depth briefing from the Special Rapporteur for human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, following her visit to the Rafah crossing, after Israel prevented her from entering the Gaza Strip, which is subject to genocide, especially regarding the gross Israeli violations of Palestinian human rights during her term, and based on Its mandate from the Human Rights Council, and its monitoring and documentation of the racist practices and policies of Israel, the occupying power, against the Palestinian people, the most recent of which is the report issued on March 25, entitled “Anatomy of a Genocide,” which provided a solid legal analysis of Israel’s commission of the crime of genocide against the Palestinian people, Explaining the images of this crime, the speeches of incitement, the intention of genocide, and the transformation of the Palestinian people as a whole into a military target.

In a separate statement, the Council welcomed the recommendations presented by Albanese to member states, and her call to take economic and political measures against Israel, the occupying power, to stop the genocide of the Palestinian people, including imposing a ban on the sale and purchase of weapons to Israel.

The permanent delegates expressed their support for the mandate of Special Rapporteur Albanese, and their appreciation and support for the methodology she works with, which reveals the true face of the Israeli occupation and its gross violations of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territory.

The League Council affirmed its solidarity with Albanese regarding the Israeli campaigns of defamation and incitement that she is being subjected to, with the aim of discouraging her from fulfilling the requirements of her mandate to monitor and submit reports on gross Israeli violations of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territory.
