Russia warns of "irreparable damage" resulting from US support for Ukraine
Russia warned on Saturday of "irreparable damage" from US legislation that allows Washington to confiscate already detained Russian assets and transfer them to Ukraine for reconstruction.
This came in press statements by Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for the Russian Presidency (the Kremlin), commenting on the US House of Representatives’ approval of a bill to provide aid to Ukraine, according to what was reported by the Russian “TASS” news agency.
Peskov stressed that Russia would respond to the American move, which he said would “distort the image of the United States in a way that cannot be avoided later.”
He added that his country "will respond with measures that are in its interest."
For her part, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the American move would "deepen the crisis around the world."
Zakharova added, in her post, that “military aid to the Kiev regime represents direct sponsorship of terrorist activity.”
Earlier Saturday, the US House of Representatives approved a $95 billion aid package for Ukraine, Israel and other US allies abroad.
