Iraqi factions announce attacking a vital target in Israel

Iraqi armed factions calling themselves the Islamic Resistance in Iraq announced that they attacked a vital target inside Israel with drones, a few hours after an attack targeting a base of the Popular Mobilization Forces south of Baghdad.

The factions said in a statement, "The Mujahideen of the Islamic Resistance in Iraq targeted a vital target in Eilat in our occupied territories at dawn today (Saturday) with drones."

The statement stressed, "The factions continue to destroy enemy strongholds and support our people in Gaza, in response to the Zionist massacres and the Zionist enemy's violation of Iraqi sovereignty in its treacherous targeting of the Popular Mobilization Forces camps."

A base belonging to the Popular Mobilization Forces north of Babil Governorate, south of the capital, Baghdad, was attacked by drones at dawn today, which led to the death of a member of the Popular Mobilization Forces and the wounding of seven, including two Iraqi army soldiers.

The attack comes at a time when the region is witnessing tensions and mutual attacks between Israel and Iran.

Abu Alaa al-Wala’i, Secretary-General of the Sayyid al-Shuhada Brigades (one of the Islamic Resistance factions in Iraq) affiliated with the Popular Mobilization Forces brigade, threatened to respond to the party that carried out the attack that targeted a Popular Mobilization Forces base north of Babil Governorate.

Since the outbreak of fighting between the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and Israel in the Gaza Strip and its environs on October 7, the Islamic Resistance factions in Iraq have launched attacks with missiles, drones, and mortar shells on Iraqi military bases where American forces, forces from the international coalition, and bases of American forces in Syria are present.

American forces responded to these attacks and launched strikes on positions belonging to the Popular Mobilization Forces in Iraq.

The Islamic Resistance recently stopped targeting American forces after negotiations began between the Iraqi government and the international coalition forces to end their presence in Iraq and establish bilateral security relations with the coalition countries.
