China criticizes the American veto: Permanent peace in the Middle East is related to the establishment of a Palestinian state

The Chinese Foreign Ministry stressed during a press conference held on Friday in the capital, Beijing, that the only way to achieve lasting peace in the Middle East is through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian touched on the United States' use of its veto against a draft UN resolution granting Palestine full membership in the United Nations on Thursday.

He stated that in 2011, the United States aborted Palestine’s first application for membership in the United Nations, and Washington returned 13 years later to drop another application as a result of a veto that it used Thursday in the UN Security Council.

"The Palestinians' dream of establishing an independent state, which they have been striving for for decades, has once again been pushed into the corner," Lin said.

He continued, "History and humanity will remember these actions undertaken by the United States."

The Chinese official pointed out that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is still ongoing and causing a major humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

He stressed that "despite the United States' objection to Palestine's full membership in the United Nations, the aspirations of the international community to find a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian problem should not be rejected."

Lin stressed, "An independent Palestinian state has been a dream of the Palestinians for many generations, and its full membership in the United Nations constitutes an important step in this historical direction."

He added, "China always stands for peace, justice and conscience in the Palestinian issue. It supports Palestine's full membership in the United Nations."

He stated that his country will continue to make every effort with all concerned parties to end the war in Gaza as soon as possible and alleviate the humanitarian crisis, and is ready to play a constructive role for the two-state solution.

The Chinese official stressed the need to implement the relevant resolutions issued by the United Nations General Assembly and the UN Security Council, and ensure the establishment of an independent Palestinian state as soon as possible for the two-state solution, while respecting the Palestinians’ hope of establishing a state.

"Only in this way, peaceful coexistence between Israel and Palestine, harmony between the Arab and Jewish states, and lasting peace in the Middle East can be achieved," he said.
