Israel bombs Iran and the latter announces the downing of several drones
Israel launched a strike against Iran in response to the Iranian attack that targeted its territory on the night of Saturday - last Sunday. Iran announced that it had shot down several drones and that “there is no missile attack at the present time” on the country, after hearing explosions near the city of Isfahan in the center of the country, while the Israeli official side remained silent regarding the attack.
An American official confirmed in a press briefing that “the targeted site is not nuclear,” and that the United States did not participate in the Israeli strike on Iran. According to the official, the Israeli response was “limited” and targeted Iranian military sites.
Iranian Space Agency spokesman Hussein Dalirian said on the X platform that several drones were “successfully shot down by the country’s air defense, and there are no reports of a missile attack currently.”
In turn, the New York Times quoted three Iranian sources as saying, “The Israeli attack hit an Iranian air base near Isfahan.”
For its part, Fars News Agency reported that “three explosions” were heard near the Shikari Army Air Base near Isfahan. Reports confirmed that there were no explosions on the ground in Isfahan and that the explosions were the result of the activation of air defenses.
Iranian state television reported at dawn today, Friday, that there were reports of “loud explosions” heard in Isfahan province and other provinces of the country, indicating that their causes were unknown.
Iranian reports confirmed that "Iranian nuclear facilities are safe and have not been subjected to any damage."
This comes at a time when Israel had previously announced its intention to respond to Iran’s attack against its territory, at the end of last week. A spokesman for the Iranian Space Organization said that the air defenses successfully shot down several small drones.
The IDF spokesman confirmed that “there is no change in the instructions of the Home Front Command (except for the current directives). If there are changes, the public will be informed about them immediately.”
The Iranian Fars Agency reported that defensive anti-defense weapons were activated in Isfahan Governorate to shoot down an object that was likely a small drone. American reports stated that Washington "is aware of reports that Israel has launched a strike inside Iran."
Flights were canceled at Imam Khomeini International Airport in Tehran until 10:30 a.m., and the Iranian Supreme National Security Council held an emergency meeting, while the Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared a state of maximum alert.
A spokesman for the Iranian Space Agency confirmed that air defenses responded to 3 targets in the sky of the city of Isfahan. Reports indicated that no explosions occurred on the ground in the city of Isfahan and that the sounds of explosions were caused by Iranian defenses.
According to the official Iranian "IRNA" agency, air defenses were activated in several Iranian provinces, including in the city of Tabriz, amid reports of sounds of explosions resulting from air defense means.
A spokesman for the Iranian Space Agency confirmed that "several small drones were successfully shot down by the country's air defense," and stressed that there is "no evidence yet about the missile attack on Isfahan."
