Security Council: Algeria requests discussion of the threat of forced displacement in Gaza
On Friday evening, the UN Security Council will hold an open briefing on “the situation in the Middle East, including the question of Palestine.”
Algeria, the only Arab member of the Council, requested that the meeting discuss the threat of forced displacement of our people in Gaza.
Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Martin Griffiths, and Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights, Ilse Brands-Keres, are expected to brief Council members.
On Wednesday, the Council held a closed consultation session, at the request of the State of Malta, to discuss the implementation of Resolution 2712, which was issued last November and calls for a “temporary pause and urgent and extended humanitarian corridors” throughout Gaza to facilitate the provision of basic goods and services to people.
