Blinken calls from Cairo for Arab-Israeli cooperation and rules out displacement plans

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said during his meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in Cairo at the end of a regional tour that Washington is committed to ensuring that the residents of Gaza are not displaced. He also called in other statements for “integration” between Israel and the countries of the region.

During his discussions with Sisi on Thursday, Blinken stressed that the United States is committed to working to establish a Palestinian state, reiterating his rejection of the raised Israeli plans and attempts to displace Palestinians from Gaza.

At the conclusion of his visit to Cairo, Blinken told reporters that the region faces two paths. The first is “the integration of Israel with security guarantees and commitments from the countries of the region as well as from the United States and the establishment of a Palestinian state... at least a path to reaching that state.”

He added that the other path is to "continue to see terrorism, nihilism and destruction at the hands of Hamas, the Houthis and Hezbollah, all of whom are supported by Iran."

Blinken believed that the first way is best "to isolate and marginalize Iran and its proxies who cause a lot of trouble to us and almost everyone else in the region."

The US Secretary of State conducted a wide tour in the region, including Turkey, Greece, the Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Israel. He also met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank, as the 100th day of the Israeli war on Gaza approached, which left tens of thousands martyred and wounded and an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe.

Blinken stated that he is discussing with Doha and Cairo ways to conclude a deal between the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and Israel, especially after their efforts to reach a temporary truce last November 24, which lasted a week.

Israel is still ignoring global calls for a ceasefire, under political cover from the United States, which supplies it with thousands of tons of weapons and ammunition via an air bridge.

In other statements at the conclusion of his regional tour, Blinken spoke about the path of normalization between Israel and Arab countries.

The American minister said, "Despite the continuation of hostilities, there is a definite desire to continue normalizing relations between Israel and a number of countries in the region. There are countries that have normalized and others that desire normalization."

He continued, "But this cannot be an alternative or at the expense of a political horizon for the Palestinians and a Palestinian state. On the contrary, any peace or integration of Israel in the region must be part of normalization efforts. I made this clear during my meetings during the tour, including Saudi Arabia."
