Israeli Official: The war on Gaza may continue for months or more
The Israeli National Security Advisor, Tzachi Hanegbi, said on Saturday evening that the war on Gaza may continue for months or more, and the American administration has not set a date for stopping the war.
In response to a question about the scenario of Hamas leaders leaving the Gaza Strip, like the scenario of the Palestine Liberation Organization leaving Beirut after its siege in 1982, he said, “Yahya Sinwar is not a partner.”
In a scenario in which information is available about Sinwar's whereabouts while he is surrounded by Israeli prisoners, he said that it would be a difficult puzzlement for Israel.
As for the military escalation and exchange of fire between the Israeli occupation army and Hezbollah fighters, in northern Israel, he pointed out that “the situation will not remain as it is, and Hezbollah forces will not sit for us on the border.”
In a separate press interview with former Mossad chief Tamir Pardo on Saturday evening, he said that he had “stopped the war in exchange for the return of the prisoners” and believed that the government had betrayed its prisoners in Gaza.
He explained that "we may succeed in recovering one or two prisoners in specific operations, but we will not be able to recover them all. We may lose soldiers in the process of liberating them, and every bomb that falls from the air on Gaza puts our kidnappers in danger."
