Israel: We will investigate transfer of forces from the Gaza border to West Bank two days before the war
Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari said yesterday evening, Monday, that the transfer of commando forces from the Gaza Strip border to the northern West Bank two days before the war will be investigated.
This came during Hagari's press conference, against the backdrop of the continuation of the Israeli ground operation, which is accompanied by violent air and artillery bombardment, and is facing fierce resistance in the Gaza Strip from Palestinian factions.
The spokesman confirmed that the transfer of commando forces whose mission was to reinforce the “Gaza Division” two days before the war to the northern West Bank would be investigated.
Earlier Monday, the official Hebrew Broadcasting Corporation revealed the transfer of two teams from the Commando Brigade, which reinforces the “Gaza Division” deployed on the borders of the Gaza Strip, to the Huwwara area in the northern West Bank, just two days before the attack launched by the Hamas movement on southern Israel on last October 7.
“The issue was not hidden from the public,” Hagari said. “The deployment of forces did not change in the months leading up to October 7, but the forces moved according to estimates, as happens every weekend.”
He added: "The full story of what happened on October 7, and everything will be discussed in the in-depth investigation that we will conduct."
On the other hand, Haaretz newspaper reported that the night before the Hamas attack, a warning was received about the possibility that the organization would attempt to infiltrate Israel.
It indicated that a drone was launched and army forces were presented, but no military official informed the participants in the concert in Kibbutz Re'im - in which hundreds were killed - of the existence of a danger.
The organizers of the concert said: If we had received a warning, everyone would have been evacuated.
The newspaper adds that, however, although it was the Northern Brigade in the Gaza Division that allowed the ceremony to take place and was responsible for its security, and although the brigade commander was aware of the warnings he received, thousands of revelers and organizers of the ceremony were not informed of a security incident. .
