Iran and European Union urge ending the conflict in Gaza as soon as possible
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian and European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell stressed the need to end the conflict in the Gaza Strip as soon as possible.
According to a statement published on the website of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two sides discussed, in a phone call on Saturday, the latest developments in Gaza as well as cooperation between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Amir Abdullahian stressed the need to stop Israeli “crimes” against the Palestinians, urging the need to immediately stop Israeli military attacks against the residents of Gaza and pave the way for the delivery of more humanitarian aid to the coastal Strip.
He warned of Israel's "conspiracy" and its move to forcefully displace the Palestinian people from their land. He also warned of expanding the conflict in the region if the Israeli attacks did not stop.
Amir Abdullahian blamed "American support as the main factor encouraging Israel to continue its military aggression against civilians and their killing in Gaza," stressing that Washington's policies supporting Israel also played an important role in prolonging the conflict and expanding its scope.
Referring to Iran's cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, Abdullahian said that cooperation will continue within technical and legal frameworks.
For his part, Borrell stressed the need to reduce tensions in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank as soon as possible, stressing that the European Union is making efforts to make Israel committed to respecting international law.
He stressed Iran's role in helping to ease tensions in the region, saying, "We also believe that the solution to the Palestinian issue lies in focusing on the diplomatic track and that continuing military attacks will only exacerbate tensions."
He also expressed his hope for continued constructive cooperation between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency.
