Putin: BRICS can help find a political solution to the conflict in Gaza

Russian President Vladimir Putin told the BRICS summit held online, today (Tuesday), that Russia calls for a political solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, stressing that the countries of the region and the member states of the BRICS group can participate in efforts to reach a settlement.

Putin added that humanitarian truces are a correct step towards peace and that it is important not to drag other countries into the conflict.

Putin pointed out that the Middle East crisis was caused by the failure of American diplomacy in the region.

He added, "We call for the concerted efforts of the international community with the aim of calming the situation, achieving a ceasefire, and finding a political solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict." The BRICS countries and countries in the region can play a major role in this regard.”

Putin has repeatedly attacked American policy in previous statements, urging Israel to exercise restraint and expressing his sympathy for the plight of the Palestinians.

He warned Israel last month against imposing a blockade on Gaza in the same way that Nazi Germany besieged Leningrad during World War II, saying that a ground attack there would lead to the killing of an “absolutely unacceptable” number of civilians.

Putin said on Tuesday that the death of Palestinian children in large numbers is “horrific,” adding that seeing children undergoing operations without anesthesia “raises special feelings.”

He added, "Due to the violation of United Nations resolutions, which clearly stipulate the establishment of two independent and sovereign states, Israel and Palestine, to achieve peaceful coexistence between them, more than one generation of Palestinians has grown up in an atmosphere of injustice towards their people. The Israelis cannot fully guarantee security for their state" .
