Israel hinted that it will not abide by the UN Security Council resolution, which calls for urgent humanitarian truces in the Israeli war against the Gaza Strip.
This hint came in the context of a statement issued by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday (Wednesday), in which it stressed that there is no place for continuous humanitarian truces as long as the Hamas movement is holding 239 kidnapped persons in the Gaza Strip.
The statement stated that Israel calls on the Security Council and the international community to insist on the speedy release of all kidnapped Israelis, according to the text of the resolution, and stressed that Israel expects the Security Council to clearly condemn Hamas, and to take into account the need to create another security reality in Gaza. .
Yesterday evening, the UN Security Council adopted a resolution submitted by Malta, calling for the implementation of urgent humanitarian truces in the Gaza Strip, with the approval of 12 countries, and Britain, the United States and Russia abstaining from voting.
For his part, Israel's ambassador to the United Nations, Gilad Erdan, said that the Security Council's resolution is not realistic, and the resolution will not have any practical meaning, according to international law, so that Hamas members will not read the resolution, nor will they act according to it.
Erdan added: “It is unfortunate that the Security Council continues to ignore, and does not denounce, or even mention, the massacre committed by the Hamas movement, which led to the war in Gaza, and that Israel will continue to work until the Hamas movement is annihilated and the detainees are returned.”
This is the fifth time that the UN Security Council has attempted to take a decision since the outbreak of the war on Gaza on October 7. The text of the resolution stated that the UN Security Council calls on all parties to comply with their obligations under international law, including international humanitarian law, especially with regard to the protection of civilians, especially children.
