Gaza and the "final battle"... Where are things heading?

The continuing bloody developments in the Gaza Strip since October 7 are confusing many experts, and while some believe that Israel itself does not know where things are going, others see that the road is blocked.

In this context, Dr. Alon Ben-Meir, professor of international relations at the Center for World Affairs at New York University, believes that Israel simply cannot eliminate the ideology. “Even if Israel manages to behead every prominent Hamas leader, it will only be a matter of time.” "A new generation of Palestinian leaders is rising."

While giving advice to Israel and the United States to avoid the worst by urgently returning to the settlement and the two-state solution, the academic stresses that “the Palestinian problem will not disappear easily; the Palestinians will not go anywhere and today they are more determined than ever to get rid of the occupation. The tragedy that Its unfolding horrific and inevitable consequences make the need for a solution more urgent than ever. If not now, then when?

For his part, Muhammad Ali Al-Khalidi, professor of philosophy at New York University, confirms that there is no possible or achievable military goal for the “bloody” Israeli campaign in Gaza.

The university professor asks: “Could this be the final battle in which Hamas is struck once and for all? Even if so, there will be other Palestinian militants waiting to take over Hamas’ role, as long as Palestinians are denied the right to self-determination and subjected to systematic violence.” "Indescribable. Even if Hamas is eliminated militarily, another group will rise up to take its place."

The expert points out that “over the past 16 years, Israel has prevented the import into Gaza of anything that could be used to make a weapon (including concrete, glass, fishing ropes and many other materials), yet Palestinian militants have always found a way to overcome even the most severe siege methods.” "Israeli control is cruel."

Regarding the original essence of the problem, Al-Khalidi believes that “the Israeli government does not see room for self-determination for any party other than the Jews in the Land of Israel, including the occupied territories. The statement of principles issued by the current Israeli government stated: The Jewish people have an exclusive and inalienable right throughout The Land of Israel. Article 1 of the infamous 2018 Jewish Nation-State Law states that “the right to national self-determination in the State of Israel is unique to the Jewish people.” Despite its blatantly racist nature, this law was upheld as constitutional by the court The Israeli Supreme Council, which is supposed to limit the most extreme excesses of the Legislative Council.”

While Israeli sources speak of a “new reality,” meaning arrangements after “victory over Hamas,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declares that Israel: “will bear comprehensive responsibility for security for an indefinite period, because we have seen what happens when we do not do that.”

The new reality that the Israelis dream of in Gaza was touched upon by the former deputy commander of the Gaza Division in the Israeli army, Brigadier General Amir Avivi, reserve, saying: “You need to control the Egyptian border... and you need something like Area B in the West Bank, where "You can come in and out and detain terrorist cells, just like we do."

Despite all this, Israel does not want to bear responsibility for more than two million Palestinians in the Strip, and a senior Israeli official says that Tel Aviv “will not control 2 million Palestinians, and there are two principles in the issue of the post-war structure: the absence of Hamas and the preservation of Israel’s operational superiority.”

Some of the reports whose authors believe that the bloody war in Gaza is heading towards a stalemate point to several crucial issues, including the difficulty of rebuilding the completely destroyed Strip, not to mention the impossibility of obtaining guarantees that Israel will not level it to the ground again.

The thing that many are trying to ignore is that Israel's real strategy, and what can be described as the final solution to the Palestinian issue, is to empty the Gaza Strip of its residents, and it does not matter where they are transferred! This is what a few experts say bitterly, pointing out that Israel is on a path that will not only lead it to a dead end, but perhaps to collapse, through a process of self-undermining.
