Russia comments on an Israeli minister's call to bomb Gaza with nuclear weapons: The issue raises many questions

The Russian Foreign Ministry said today (Tuesday) that the statement of the Israeli Heritage Minister, who seemed to be open to the idea of Israel launching a nuclear strike on Gaza, raises many questions, including questions about Tel Aviv’s possession of nuclear weapons.

Russia's comment comes after the Minister of Heritage in the Israeli occupation government, Amichai Eliyahu, said earlier that "dropping a nuclear bomb on Gaza is a possible solution." Regarding the Israeli prisoners in the Strip, the Israeli minister commented, saying: "War has costs."

The Israeli minister's statements were reported by the official Israeli Broadcasting Authority, during which he answered a question about whether a nuclear bomb should be dropped on the entire Gaza. He replied: "This is one of the options." He continued, saying: "We will not provide humanitarian aid to the Nazis. There is no such thing as non-interference in Gaza."

Eliyahu also referred to more than 240 Israeli prisoners held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip, and said: “I pray and hope for their return, but there are also costs to war.” He said: “The Gaza Strip must not remain on the face of the earth, and we must re-establish settlements there” As he put it.

The statements of the Israeli Minister of Heritage may not seem surprising, especially since the far-right minister in Netanyahu's government is known for his extremist views, as Amichai Eliyahu, from the "Otzma Yehudit" (Jewish Power) party, previously called for annexing the West Bank to Israel, and doing so with " As soon as possible".

Eliyahu added in an interview with Occupation Army Radio, last August, that “sovereignty must be extended within the borders of the West Bank as well, and we must do so in the most wise way, and start repeating that everywhere, to create international recognition that this place is ours.”

Also, the Israeli Minister of Heritage was not the first Israeli official to call for dropping a nuclear bomb on Gaza, as former Knesset member, Moshe Feiglin, called on his account on the “X” platform to strike the Gaza Strip with a nuclear weapon.

Also last October 11, Knesset member Tali Gottliff called on the Israeli army to “use nuclear weapons” in Gaza, in response to the Hamas attack.

This comes at a time when the Israeli occupation has been waging, for 31 days, a “devastating war” on Gaza, in which 10,22 Palestinians were killed, including 4,104 children and 2,641 women, and more than 25,000 others were injured. 160 Palestinians were killed and 2,150 were arrested in the West Bank, according to official Palestinian sources.
