Scottish Prime Minister announces the departure of his wife’s parents from the Gaza Strip

Scottish Prime Minister Hamza Yousef said on Friday that his wife's parents were able to leave the Gaza Strip on Friday, ending the "nightmare" of the family's insomnia after they were stranded in light of the ongoing Israeli bombing of the besieged Strip.

The Rafah crossing from Gaza to Egypt was opened for limited evacuations for the third day today, Friday, under an agreement brokered by Qatar, which aims to allow some holders of foreign passports, their families, and some wounded residents of Gaza to exit the Strip.

The names of Elizabeth and Majid Al-Naqla appeared on the list of those to be evacuated that the Rafah Crossings Authority published earlier online.

Hamza Yousef and his wife Nadia Al-Naqla said in a statement, “We are very pleased to confirm that Nadia’s parents were able to leave Gaza through the Rafah crossing this morning.”

They added, "The past four weeks have been a nightmare for our family. Despite the deep relief on a personal level, we are saddened by the continued suffering of the people of Gaza."

Youssef (38 years old) said earlier that his wife's parents were visiting their family when the Al-Qassam Brigades launched Operation Al-Aqsa Flood against Israel on the 7th of last month.

Since then, Israel has launched continuous bombardment on the Gaza Strip, killing more than 9,000 residents of the Strip, wounding more than 23,000, causing widespread destruction in the Strip, and exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.

Youssef said last month that his wife's parents were running out of food and drinking water, and they could die if they were not able to leave soon.

A first group including British citizens left Gaza on Wednesday, and the British Foreign Office said it would provide them with transportation to a reception center in Cairo and help arrange travel on commercial flights. Youssef, who heads the devolved government in Scotland, has repeatedly called for a ceasefire. Fire in Gaza. He also condemned the massacre committed by the Israeli army in the Jabalia camp in the northern Gaza Strip, which resulted in the death and injury of hundreds of Palestinians.

“We reiterate our calls for all parties to agree on an immediate ceasefire and open a humanitarian corridor so that large amounts of aid, including fuel, can enter a population that has been suffering from collective punishment for too long,” Youssef and his wife said, adding that Hamas should release All detainees. They said, "Families in Gaza and Israel are suffering after the loss of completely innocent men, women and children, and we are praying for them all."
