An-Najah University participates in holding a conference on water diplomacy in Arab region
The Network of Arab Water Experts, the National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, and the UNESCO Chairs at An-Najah National University organized a conference on water diplomacy in the Arab region in the Jordanian capital, Amman, at the initiative of the UNESCO Chairs at the university, and with funding from UNESCO.
This came with the participation of the Chairman of the National Committee for Education, Culture and Science, Prof. Dr. Ali Zidan, and the head of the Palestinian Water Authority, Engineer Mazen Ghoneim; In addition to experts and officials in the water sector from Arab countries.
The university was represented at the conference by Professor Dr. Saed Al-Khayyat, Director of Scientific Centres, Dr. Anan Jayousi, holder of the UNESCO Chair for Water, Dr. Sanaa Sarghali, holder of the UNESCO Chair for Democracy and Human Rights, and Dr. Johnny Assi, water law expert.
The first session began with a presentation by Dr. Sarghali, who moderated the dialogue in this session, followed by several introductory sessions discussing the importance of water diplomacy in addressing conflicts and ensuring water rights, especially in light of the Israeli occupation and deprivation of the Palestinian people of their water rights.
In his speech, UNESCO representative Dr. Bishr Al-Imam praised the UNESCO chairs at An-Najah University and their role in leading such scientific initiatives, and their contribution to achieving sustainable development and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
At the conclusion of the conference, Dr. Al-Jayousi presented a set of concluding recommendations related to the necessity of activating and unifying the Arab position in negotiating water rights.
