Israeli police warn: Protests against Netanyahu's government have become a target for Palestinian attacks
Israeli Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai warned the leaders of the protests against the government of Benjamin Netanyahu that the marches they are organizing have become a target for armed cells as well as for what he described as “terrorists” who are trying to carry out individual attacks.
According to the Hebrew newspaper Haaretz, this warning came during a meeting held between Shabtai and some protest leaders, a few days after the attack on Nahalat Binyamin Street in Tel Aviv, which was thwarted after a force from the city’s municipal security discovered a Palestinian gunman and confronted him, leading to the death of one of them. , before it is filtered. (The martyr Kamel Abu Bakr from Jenin).
According to the newspaper, Shabtai confirmed that assessments indicated that the attacker was seeking to reach the demonstration area on Kaplan Street at the time.
Shabtawi and the police commanders who participated in the meeting told the protest leaders that there were intelligence warnings about Palestinian intentions to carry out attacks against the demonstrators, and that this now represents a real threat.
According to sources who participated in the meeting, Israeli police commanders asked the protest leaders to ensure the necessity of prior coordination with the police to secure the marches in light of the increasing security risks.
It is expected that the demonstrations will expand next month with the return of the Knesset to deliberations on judicial legislation.
