Gaza: A vigil of Palestinian graduates to demand job opportunities

On Tuesday, male and female graduates in the Gaza Strip organized a protest in front of the headquarters of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), west of Gaza City, to demand the provision of job opportunities for them, in light of the difficult economic conditions that the Strip is going through due to the Israeli siege.

Participants in the protest raised slogans stressing their right to obtain jobs, holding the UNRWA administration responsible for the conditions of refugee graduates, and the necessity of activating United Nations laws that affirm the right of refugees to work.

A female graduate spoke on behalf of the participants, noting that there are 16,000 male and female graduates waiting for employment opportunities, stressing the right of Palestinian youth to live a decent life by obtaining a suitable job opportunity.

Meanwhile, human rights activist Salah Abdel Ati said that the sector is subjected to a siege that has disastrous repercussions on the economic situation, which has led to high unemployment rates, especially among young people.

Abdel Ati called on UNRWA to prepare a first aid program for graduates in the Gaza Strip, calling for supporting youth development projects and providing them with soft loans.

He called on UNRWA to open a serious dialogue with young people to ensure that they find job opportunities and provide a decent life.
