Who is Khader Adnan?
On Tuesday morning, the prisoner Sheikh Khader Adnan, one of the leaders of the Islamic Jihad Movement, was martyred after he entered an open-ended hunger strike for the 86th day in a row.
The full name of the martyr is Khader Adnan Muhammad Musa, born on March 24, 1978. He is a leader in the Islamic Jihad movement, and he was arrested several times in Israeli prisons, where he spent several years.
In 2005, he went on an open hunger strike for 12 days, as a result of his isolation in "Kfar Yona" prison, and he did not stop his strike until the prison administration acquiesced to his demand of transferring him to the regular prison sections.
In 2012, he went on a strike that lasted 66 days, and after court hearings, the Israeli Supreme Court decided to release him in April of that year, after his health condition deteriorated.
In 2015, Khader Adnan’s 56-day hunger strike, which he began on May 8, 2015, put pressure on the Israeli authorities to release him and pledge not to place him in administrative detention. He was later released, but he was re-arrested, and he went on strike in 2018 for a period of time. 59 days, before taking away his freedom, and in 2021 he went through a similar strike for 25 days.
During his detention, Khader Adnan was subjected to harsh interrogations in several Israeli interrogation centers, most notably Al-Jalama, and he was constantly isolated and subjected to torture.
During his periods of hunger strike, he would often receive death threats at times and force-feeding him at other times, and that was even in the last days of his last strike before he passed away as a martyr.
