North Korean leader Kim Jong Un ordered the launch of the country's first military spy satellite after its construction was recently completed, the official North Korean News Agency announced Wednesday.

The agency said that Kim requested, during a visit to the North Korean space agency, "the launch of the first military reconnaissance satellite (North Korea), which was completed in April, on the specified date" for the launch.

But the North Korean leader, who inspected the National Aeronautics and Space Administration with his daughter, did not give any other details about the launch date.

Speaking to administration staff, he called for the deployment of "a number of reconnaissance satellites in different orbits."

Kim Jong Un said that obtaining military reconnaissance technology is a "fundamental task that must be accomplished" to counter what he described as the threats and aggression of Seoul and Washington.
