The crisis of division.. and the absurdity of imported solutions
The division still exists. Attempts to end it have failed.
This saying was dictated by the facts of more than fifteen years, replete with no less than a hundred attempts to end it, until it became the distinguishing mark on the face of the Palestinian situation, which is exhausted under the weight of internal crises that have no solution, and political crises from which there is no way out.
The division as one of the crises, not all of them, was a faltering investment for everyone who tried to mediate between its two sides to end it. If we review the many stations that the reconciliation train traveled, we see a common denominator between them, which is the failure to reach the last station - success - if we do not say that the results were counterproductive. Exactly, and its conclusion is deepening the division and turning it into separation with the consecration of two legitimacy for one people, one cause and one goal, an official legitimacy that some like to call the constitutionality and legitimacy of the fait accompli that everyone deals with without official recognition of it.
The question of questions.. What is the secret of this continuous failure, even though the need for success is urgent for a people who are all under occupation and siege, and there is an indisputable certainty that the occupation is the primary beneficiary of its continuation.
The secret is no longer a mystery. It was revealed by the late Minister Omar Suleiman, the first to carry the reconciliation file, and he worked on it diligently, patiently, and determined.
He said: "The reason for failure is the absence of the Palestinian lever, without which there is no hope for any intervention, no matter how powerful his influence, to reach a result."
I understood from what the man most familiar with all the details of the file said, that reconciliation must begin with a Palestinian effort, and that others should only provide assistance and care, and even the right place if the occupation caused, and is already causing, the non-participation of leaders that prevent them from being freely present on the land of the crisis and in solution efforts.
The Palestinian-Palestinian leverage can be provided without the occupation having an influential role due to its control of the place, through the credibility of each party towards the other, and this was absent due to the understanding of each party in the interest of its own agendas, and the behavior of each party to subjugate the other in pursuit of the impossible, which is to resolve the conflict over Power and influence for the benefit of one party at the expense of the other party.
The Palestinian reality, within its internal framework, does not allow any room for a resolution of this kind. Hamas in Gaza cannot eliminate Fatah and its allies from among the components of the PLO, nor can the authority in Ramallah cancel Hamas, which has an undeniable public presence. The same thing happens at any time and place, which is that the authority in Gaza is an opposition in Ramallah, and the authority in the West Bank is an opposition in Gaza.
Far from, far from being reached, an agreement that abolishes this situation, even if all the countries of the world intervened.
The fundamental cause lies in the nature of the leadership position in the Palestinian arena, which is still governed by forces belonging to a bygone era. Although it was appropriate at a time when the power and influence of the factions under the banner of the Liberation Organization flourished, it is not appropriate now, not in the management of the internal situation, where Each party monopolizes what is under its control, not in terms of foreign policy, as each faction has its own program, relations, alliances, and financing.
The Palestinians and their brothers and friends who are keen on them are wondering what is the way out of this ongoing situation, which has rightfully been called the second Nakba.
It is no longer useful to sit by the phone waiting for a call for dialogue in any capital, noting that there are no longer any capitals calling for failure in this file.
It is no longer useful to divert the ball from its rightful goal, with mutual accusations and the involvement of the external factor, as if it is responsible for the continuation of the division.
It is no longer useful to repeat that we need a comprehensive, in-depth, mature, responsible dialogue, etc... after thousands of dialogue sessions that took place in capitals and on the homeland.
What is useful is one thing, no matter how difficult it may seem, but it is the most realistic and feasible.. which is everyone going to the polls to produce one legitimacy and a unified national framework, and what the fund produces determines the size and merit of all those who came out of it in managing the affairs of the country and the people. As for the claim of influence from outside this The fund will only lead to a continuity of what we are in, according to the most eloquent colloquial proverb in the embodiment of chaos and fragmentation, "the case of each of the Edu Alo."
Remember how we united last May on the merits of the elections and how our division increased when we abandoned it.
