The Palestinian arena and the winds of reconciliation in the region

One of the repercussions of the Ukrainian war and the floundering of American foreign policy is the entry of the world into a phase of labor that will crystallize sooner or later in the form of new alliances and axes on the international arena, most notably the growing strong presence of China and the distancing of some traditional allies of the West from it and their shift towards a serious search for the location of their economic and security interests.

Among the repercussions of these international developments on the Arab arena is the tendency towards closing the pages of differences and conflicts and attempts to impose the will of some states on others, especially after the failure of those attempts in some arenas such as the Syrian arena.

Without going into that, it suffices to say that we are facing signs of internal Arab reconciliation, which paved the way for a breakthrough in the Saudi-Iranian relations, which was immediately reflected in the Yemeni and Syrian arenas, and which revived hopes that the warring parties in Yemen would find a way towards ending that war after exhausting this country, which is yesterday. The need for stability and devotion to development and construction after the devastation caused by the war to its economic and social structure. Likewise, concerted efforts led by Saudi Arabia to return Syria to the bosom of the Arab nation after ten years of alienation, during which the Syrian people experienced the worst scourge of war, during which Syria turned into an arena for proxy wars, and parts of its lands were cut off by the American and Turkish occupation and local militias, and its people were displaced to all parts of the globe.

It must be emphasized here that the recent developments and reconciliation movements, which we hope for success, have proven a number of facts, most notably the central role played by Saudi Arabia in the region, which cannot be ignored, and the second fact is the failure of all bets on overthrowing the Syrian regime and turning Syria into Libya or Sudan. Another, and the third fact, which is the depth of Iran's penetration into the region, its presence in some Arab countries, and the need to work with it and not against it, taking into account Arab national interests and prioritizing them over any other interests or considerations.

The past ten years were lean years that squandered the economic and military energies of most of the countries of the region and caused destruction, social rupture, and asylum to the peoples of some of them. Perhaps the current awakening and the winds of reconciliation blowing over our Arab world, in which Saudi Arabia has a positive role, will continue and bear fruit, God willing.

What can be said now, but with great caution, is that the Arab region stands at the gates of a new phase, if it continues, it will relieve a lot of suffering and woes for its people, preserve its resources and restore security, stability, and opportunities for development and construction unless the hidden, hostile hands succeed in tampering again and thwarting the spirit of reconciliation and reconciliation. that we feel and see.

The question that arises is: What prevents the contagion of reconciliation from spreading from the region of which we are a part to the Palestinian arena, which has been suffering from the scourge of fragmentation and division for more than fifteen years?

Since the June 2007 division, the Palestinian arena has witnessed an incursion of occupation and settlement, whether in the West Bank or Jerusalem, blatant attacks on Islamic and Christian sanctities, disregard for the lives, lives, property, and human rights of Palestinians, and systematically and continuously violating them without deterrence or hindrance. The Palestinian arena witnessed the collapse of institutions, confusion between the three authorities, and the transformation of government into a vehicle to achieve the narrow interests of some individuals and groups, and we became hostages, if not a tool in the hands of the occupation.

What do we need today and in the face of the winds of reconciliation and changing alliances and relations between the countries of the region and the world? to his moods and orders, whether it is one country or a group of countries.

There are those who believe that Israel and some countries in the region like the current Palestinian situation and do not want us to hold elections or reform our internal affairs, and take the scarecrow of Hamas as a reason to insist on keeping the Palestinian situation as it is. And I say that we have always adhered to the independent Palestinian national decision, which we raised a slogan strongly against attempts to control and interfere in the Palestinian affairs after the exit from Beirut. The slogan of the independent Palestinian national decision was the slogan of the session of the National Council that was held in Amman in 1984, so what prevents us from restoring the independent Palestinian national decision its effectiveness?

The time has come for us to rise again, to be part of the winds of reconciliation blowing across the region, to put division behind us, and to resort to electoral legitimacy and the rule of law.
