Renewed demonstrations against the Netanyahu government for the fourteenth week in a row

On Saturday evening, demonstrations against the government of Benjamin Netanyahu and its plan to weaken the judiciary and undermine the " Supreme Court " were renewed for the fourteenth week in a row.

Tens of thousands participated in the central demonstration on "Kaplan" Street in the center of Tel Aviv, as thousands demonstrated at the Horev intersection in Haifa, and in front of the residence of the Israeli president in Jerusalem. Demonstrations also took place in Kiryat Shmona and Kfar Saba. While the demonstrations were canceled in several areas, including Beersheba, Raanana, and the Karkur junction in Hadera and Netanya, due to the Jewish Passover holiday.

The demonstrators carried flares and banners with slogans written in Hebrew, English and Arabic, including: "Palestinian lives matter," "A people occupying another people cannot be free," "It's time to bring down the dictator," "The government of shame," and "Discrimination does not stop." At the green line.” The Israeli police closed several streets and crossroads in Tel Aviv before the main demonstration, and arrested four young men who assaulted demonstrators near Bisan.

The Netanyahu government seeks to make radical amendments to the legal and judicial systems, to almost completely eliminate the Supreme Court's authority for judicial review, and to give the government an automatic majority in the judges' selection committee, which a wide segment of Israelis sees as "targeting democracy and undermining the judicial system."

Although Netanyahu announced the suspension of voting on the amendments in the Israeli "Knesset", under the weight of the escalating protests in the Israeli street, the organizers of the protest demonstrations saw in this announcement an attempt by the government to contain the protests, and demanded the cancellation of the plan to completely weaken the judiciary.
