Shanghai reveals $15.7 billion in investments in 28 cultural and tourism projects

On Tuesday, the Shanghai authorities announced 28 cultural and tourism projects, with a total investment of 108 billion yuan (about 15.7 billion US dollars).

Shanghai aims to become a leading tourism investment destination in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Chinese economic hub will move further towards becoming a world-famous tourism city by boosting confidence, expanding consumption and investment and stabilizing development, said Fang Shizhong, director of the Shanghai Municipal Culture and Tourism Directorate, at the second tourism investment promotion conference in east China's Shanghai.

The 28 projects cover cultural relics, ancient dwellings, fashion and art, as well as memorial halls for the martyrs.

One of the main projects includes an indoor ski resort of more than 90,000 square metres.

It is scheduled to open to the public in the first half of 2024, and is expected to expand the tourism industrial chain in Shanghai and stimulate enthusiasm for winter sports among Shanghai residents, according to the congress.

Wang Haimin, general manager of the China Tourism Group, said the group and the Shanghai government will join hands to build the Huangpu River Passenger Travel, and develop more smart tourism and research tourism products in the future.
