London calls on "all members" of NATO to agree to Sweden's accession
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak described, on Tuesday, Finland's official accession to NATO as a "historic" event, calling on "all members" of the alliance to agree to Sweden's accession, whose membership in the alliance is hindered by two countries, Turkey and Hungary.
"This is a historic day for Finland and for NATO," Sunak said in a statement. "Now, all NATO members must take the necessary decisions to include Sweden as well, so that we can form a united alliance to defend freedom in Europe and around the world."
In turn, British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly , who attended the NATO meeting in Brussels, announced additional military aid to Ukraine worth $12 million in the form of medical aid and food rations.
Cleverly said, "Russia thought its aggression would divide us. Instead, we are closely linked and resolute in our defense of the principles of freedom and the rule of law."
"Let's be clear: our door will remain open. We will welcome more allies and continue to push for swift Swedish accession," he added.
