Expressway freight services boost trade between ASEAN countries and western China

The volume of expressway cargo transportation through the "new international land-sea trade corridor" grew in the first quarter of this year, along with a significant increase in the number of trucks, according to the Chongqing Logistics Expressway Base in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality.


During this period, 1,306 truck trips transported goods worth about 991 million yuan (about 144.03 million US dollars), up 316 percent and 394 percent year on year, respectively, as the service delivered 2,939 standard containers (twenty-foot equivalent), carrying Goods with a total weight of 28,100 tons.


In March, 403 truck trips delivered 907 standard containers of goods, worth about 308 million yuan, up year-on-year by 153 percent, 153 percent and 377 percent, respectively.


The cross-border expressway freight service was launched in Chongqing in April 2016, mainly serving the countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).


This service greatly reduced transportation time compared to sea freight.


As of March 31, 11 cross-border expressway freight service routes have been launched, covering more than 30 cities in Southeast Asia and parts of South and Central Asia, through which auto parts, motorcycle parts, laptops, and fruits are transported from Chongqing and other regions. other to ASEAN countries.


It is worth noting that foreign trade in Chongqing, an inland city on the fast track of China's new round of opening-up, hit a record high of 815.84 billion yuan in 2022, up 2 percent from 2021.
