The value of the Turkish lira fell to more than 16 liras per dollar for the first time since the beginning of the year

Ankara - (dpa) - The Turkish currency continued its decline against the dollar during trading today, Tuesday, to reach its lowest level in five months, in light of the continuation of the flexible monetary policy, which does not allow to curb inflation in Turkey.

Bloomberg news agency indicated that the lira fell by 0.8% to 16.0477 pounds per dollar, which is the lowest level since the financial crisis that hit Turkey late last year.

This comes at a time when consumer prices in Turkey rose during the past month by 70% annually, which is significantly more than the target rate for the Turkish Central Bank, which is 14% annually.
