Nusa Dua (Indonesia) - (AFP) - US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said Monday that ending the war in Ukraine is the best way to address the problems of the global economy , in a clear message to Russia ahead of the G20 summit in Indonesia.

"Ending the war waged by Russia is a moral imperative and simply the best thing to do for the global economy," Yellen told reporters on the sidelines of a meeting with her French counterpart, Bruno Le Maire.

And the Russian invasion of Ukraine is not officially on the agenda of the summit, which includes 20 major economies.

Moscow called on the G20 to focus on economic and financial issues rather than political and security issues. But the war launched by Russian President Vladimir Putin nine months ago had profound economic repercussions, manifested in the rise in energy and food prices.

Indonesia, the host country, calls for peace negotiations and refuses to condemn Moscow directly.

Bruno Le Maire, for his part, stressed the need for action to mitigate the economic impacts of the conflict.

"I think the first issue on the table is ways to lower energy prices and how to get rid of inflation," said the French economy minister.
