Rescue of more than 360 immigrants in the English Channel
Lille - France (AFP) - More than 360 migrants trying to cross the Channel from France to reach England on board small boats were rescued Sunday at sea during several operations, according to the French authorities.
The Department of Maritime Operations in the English Channel and the North Sea said in a statement that the Surveillance and Rescue Operations Center sent several boats after spotting several boats facing difficulty in the Bad de Calais Strait, in order to help them.
The migrants were taken to several French ports, where ambulance teams and border police were waiting for them.
Since the beginning of the year, more than 33,500 people have crossed the Channel, which is fraught with danger, as this sea is one of the busiest sea routes in the world. The number of these migrants has continued to rise since 2018.
