Libya confirms its support for initiatives aimed at improving the image of the Arabs

TRIPOLI - (Xinhua) Walid Al-Lafi, Libyan Minister of State for Communication and Political Affairs, stressed on Saturday Libya's support for Arab initiatives aimed at enhancing the image of Arabs.

Al-Lafi said during the consultative meeting of Arab information ministers, which began last Saturday, at the conclusion of the "Tripoli Capital of Arab Media for 2022" event, that "the State of Libya renews its support for Arab initiatives aimed at enhancing the image of Arabs in the face of campaigns targeting our identity."

"In light of the rapid technological development, cooperation between Arab countries in media and journalism has become a more important requirement than ever," the Libyan official said.

Ahmed Rashid Khatabi, Head of the Media and Communication Sector of the League of Arab States, said that the Council of Arab Information Ministers is keen to keep media cooperation at the top of its agenda.

Khatabi stated during the meeting that the Arab Media Capital project is one of the most prominent initiatives adopted by the Council in 2016 with the aim of shedding light on national media work in Arab countries and strengthening Arab media cooperation.

He explained that "media in all its forms has become an effective tool in shaping public opinion and a global means of dialogue, rapprochement and understanding between different cultures."

In its previous session, the Council of Arab Information Ministers announced the selection of Beirut, Lebanon, as the "capital of Arab media" for the year 2023.
