The Israeli Knesset approves bills to pass the interests of Netanyahu and his government

Last night, the Israeli Knesset approved bills and amendments to other laws to pass the goals of the current right-wing government and its prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu .

According to the Arabic-speaking Israeli Public Broadcasting Authority, the Knesset approved by a majority the amendment of the “Basics of Government” law, which prevents the Supreme Court from announcing that the “prime minister” in reference to Netanyahu is unable to perform the duties of his position, and that only the “prime minister” or the government are authorized. in making such a decision.

Such a government decision is taken only with the approval of three-quarters of the members of the Israeli government, without the Prime Minister himself opposing it. 90 members.

Commenting on this amendment, the head of the Israeli opposition, Yair Lapid, said, "We do not need this law because today Netanyahu exists in a state of impotence, as there is no concern for personal security, free education, and facing the high cost of living and housing prices, and the economy and security are collapsing."

For its part, said the "Movement for the Integrity of Governance": "The only goal of the Prime Minister of this law is to escape from his trial."

Significantly absent from the voting process was the Likud pole, Yuli Edelstein, who Likud circles say is paving the way for defection from the party and joining the left camp.

The Knesset Plenary also approved, in its first reading, the override clause, which allows the Knesset to override the decisions of the High Court of Justice if a majority of 61 members is available.

One of the articles of the bill stipulates that the Supreme Court has the right to annul a law enacted by the Knesset, provided that it clearly contradicts the Basic Law, with a full judicial panel and a majority of at least twelve out of fifteen judges.
