Saudi Arabia transfers $50 million to Jordan to support the budget

AMMAN, (Xinhua) -- The Jordanian Ministry of Planning and the Saudi Embassy in Amman announced today (Thursday) the transfer of $50 million, the fourth tranche of a $250 million grant provided by Riyadh to support the Jordanian general budget over a period of five years.


The Jordanian Acting Minister of Planning, Youssef Al-Shamali, stressed, during a press conference with the Saudi ambassador to Jordan, Nayef Al-Sudairi, the importance of the development support provided by Saudi Arabia, which enabled the Jordanian government to implement priority development projects, and to face the economic and financial challenges associated with the repercussions of Syrian asylum and the repercussions of the spread of the Corona virus.


Al-Shamali pointed out that Saudi Arabia allocated $1.25 billion within the framework of the Gulf grant to implement strategic and top-priority projects for the Jordanian government in various sectors, and its contribution to providing an aid package to Jordan within the framework of the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Summit, in addition to providing grants amounting to $130 million to provide the necessary services for Syrian refugees. and host communities.


Al-Shamali praised the depth of the bilateral relations between Jordan and Saudi Arabia, expressing Jordan's constant aspiration to strengthen and develop these relations at various levels.
In turn, the Saudi ambassador affirmed that the transfer of the fourth tranche comes as an extension and continuation of Saudi Arabia's commitment to stand by Jordan within the framework of the outcomes of the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Summit in June of 2018, which aims to support the Jordanian economy.


Al-Sudairi said that the Jordanian economy is solid and capable of growing despite the challenges it faced and faced by the countries of the region as a whole, especially in the past decade, due to the regional repercussions that afflicted the region.
