DOHA - (Xinhua) - Qatar stressed its stance in support of the "one-China" principle and the importance of respecting the principle of state sovereignty, stressing China's pivotal role in maintaining global security and stability.

The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement posted on its website Thursday evening that the State of Qatar is following the developments in Taiwan , and stresses the position of the State of Qatar in support of the one-China principle.

The statement added that the ministry also stresses the need to respect the principles of international law, including the principle of state sovereignty and friendly relations between them.

He stressed the important and pivotal role of the People's Republic of China and the United States of America in maintaining regional and global security and stability.

He called for avoiding escalation and relying on international legitimacy and relevant United Nations resolutions.

US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited China's Taiwan region last Tuesday, ignoring China's strong opposition and official protests.

The international community criticized the visit for grossly violating China's sovereignty, territorial integrity and unity, and expressed support for the one-China principle and all necessary measures taken by the Chinese side to safeguard national sovereignty, territorial integrity and integrity.
