The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip called on the international community on Tuesday to provide protection for hospitals and medical staff and to open safe corridors to them after the Israeli army warned the residents of Gaza City to evacuate and move towards the Mawasi area to the south.
The ministry stated in a post on "Telegram": "We demand immediate protection for hospitals and medical staff and the opening of safe routes to access them in the Gaza Governorate."
It warned of a humanitarian disaster threatening the lives of thousands of patients and injured individuals.
In the morning, the Israeli army warned all Palestinians in Gaza City, numbering about one million, to evacuate the city and head towards the Mawasi areas in the southern part of the sector.
Israeli army spokesman Avichai Adraee said in a post on the American platform "X": "An urgent message to the residents of Gaza City from the Old City and Al-Tuffah to the east and to the sea to the west: For your safety, move immediately towards the Mawasi via Al-Rasheed Street."
He added that "the presence of residents in the city is extremely dangerous," warning that "the occupation army will move with great force in the area."
Just a few days ago, Israel began a gradual campaign to destroy high-rise residential buildings in Gaza City, increasing the number of displaced families and pushing them into harsh displacement conditions, while observers warn that the goal is to forcibly push Palestinians to migrate south, as part of a broader Israeli-American plan to expel them outside the sector.
On Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu bragged about his army's destruction of 50 residential buildings in Gaza City within two days, threatening to demolish more and continue with the plans for displacement, saying: "This is just the beginning and a prelude to the main operation."
On Monday as well, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz threatened to bomb more high-rise buildings in Gaza City and destroy the sector and the "Hamas" movement unless the prisoners are released and weapons are surrendered.
Tel Aviv estimates that there are 48 Israeli captives in Gaza, of whom 20 are alive, while more than 11,100 Palestinians are imprisoned in its jails, suffering from torture, starvation, and medical neglect, with many having died, according to Palestinian and Israeli human rights and media reports.
With American support, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, resulting in 64,522 deaths and 163,096 injuries among Palestinians, most of whom are children and women, along with hundreds of thousands of displaced individuals, and famine that has killed 393 Palestinians, including 140 children.
We demand immediate protection for hospitals and medical staff and the opening of safe routes to access them in the Gaza Governorate.
