UNICEF warns of consequences of preventing humanitarian aid from entering Gaza
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has warned of the consequences of stopping the entry of humanitarian aid on children and families, who are struggling to survive throughout the Gaza Strip.
The United Nations organization called, via its official page last night, for taking immediate and effective measures to enable the provision of urgently needed basic services, and to facilitate the unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid into the Strip through multiple crossings.
“The restrictions on aid announced on Sunday will severely impact life-saving operations for civilians,” UNICEF Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa Edouard Beigbeder said in a statement on Monday, adding that it is essential that the ceasefire holds and that aid is allowed to flow freely so that we can continue to scale up the humanitarian response.
He explained that during the first phase of the ceasefire, UNICEF was able to bring in more basic supplies and reach a greater number of children in need.
