First batch of mobile homes for Gaza moves from Rafah crossing
The first batch of mobile homes (caravans) crossed from the Egyptian side of the Rafah border crossing to the Kerem Shalom crossing in preparation for their entry into the Gaza Strip, according to what Egyptian media reported on Thursday.
The semi-official Cairo News Channel said that the first batch of mobile homes crossed into the Kerem Shalom crossing, and that today will witness the entry of "a bulldozer with 15 mobile homes via 5 trucks," without further details.
The channel broadcast television footage showing trucks carrying mobile home equipment moving from the Rafah border crossing towards the Kerem Shalom crossing, which is under Israeli control.
Mobile homes were one of the most prominent relief items that Israel refused to allow into the Strip under the ceasefire agreement with Hamas, before mediators intervened to enforce the agreement.
Reports from the Gaza Strip indicated that eight heavy bulldozers entered the Strip through the Kerem Shalom crossing over the past 48 hours, in several batches.
This equipment is used to remove debris from damaged areas.
In contrast, officials in Gaza confirmed that there is an urgent need for at least 500 heavy vehicles to carry out multiple tasks in light of the widespread destruction.
With American support, Israel committed genocide in Gaza between October 7, 2023 and January 19, 2023, leaving about 160,000 Palestinian martyrs and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 14,000 missing.
On January 19, mediators Egypt, Qatar and the United States succeeded in reaching a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and an exchange of hostages and prisoners in 3 stages, each stage lasting 42 days.
