Prisoners Club: The risks to the fate of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiyeh are increasing

The Palestinian Prisoners Club said that the risks to the fate of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiyeh are increasing with the passage of time, after the occupation army denied the existence of a record proving his arrest.

The Prisoners Club explained that the case of Dr. Safia is one of thousands of detainees in Gaza who are facing the crime of enforced disappearance.

The Prisoners Club continued, that despite the existence of clear evidence of the arrest of Dr. Safia on 12/27/2024, the occupation denies what it previously stated, as well as the existence of evidence such as the videos and photos it published, in addition to the testimonies of some detainees who were released.

On January 2, Physicians for Human Rights, on behalf of the doctor’s family, submitted a request to facilitate a lawyer’s visit to him, but the occupation army responded that there was no record of his arrest. In light of the response, Physicians for Human Rights submitted an urgent petition to reveal his fate.

Dr. Safia is one of at least 320 medical personnel who have been arrested since the beginning of the war of extermination. The arrests of doctors and the destruction of hospitals are one aspect of the war of extermination. Among the martyrs arrested since the beginning of the war of extermination were three doctors from Gaza: Iyad al-Rantisi, Adnan al-Barsh, and Ziad al-Dalu.

In this context, the Prisoners Club held the occupation fully responsible for the fate of Dr. Abu Safia, and renewed its demand for the international human rights system to save what remains of the meaning of its role in the face of the war of extermination, after its role was eroded due to the terrifying state of helplessness. This is despite some decisions and positions issued by the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court, which constituted a glimmer of hope, but they did not actually stop the war of extermination, one of its aspects being the crimes of torture against prisoners.
