An elderly woman was killed shortly after being critically injured in a stabbing attack in Herzliya on Friday, while the suspected stabber was seriously injured after being shot.

A medical team said in a statement that it was "providing first aid at the scene of the unusual event, which took place on a street in Herzliya," noting that a woman was critically injured and was pronounced dead shortly after.

The Israeli police said that the stabbing in Herzliya was an operation, noting that the perpetrator was shot by security forces.

Another crew noted that the perpetrator had been "neutralized," while a video clip taken from the scene showed several gunshots being fired at a person in the area.

Later, a medical team said that the perpetrator had been seriously injured.

A member of the medical team who arrived at the scene of the operation said, “We received a report about a woman being stabbed. We quickly arrived at the scene and saw the woman lying on the ground, unconscious, suffering from a stab wound to her body. We provided her with initial medical treatment, which included stopping the bleeding, while transferring her to the hospital, where she is in critical condition.”
