Erdogan: The international community must compel Israel to cease fire in Lebanon

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stressed the need to oblige Israel to cease fire and compensate for the damage it caused in Lebanon.

This came in a joint press conference, on Wednesday, with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati in the capital, Ankara.

"The international community must continue to pressure Israel to commit it to a strict ceasefire and compensate for the damage it has caused in Lebanon," Erdogan said.

The Turkish President stressed that his country will continue to play its role in this regard.

He explained that Lebanon's security cannot be viewed in isolation from the stability of the region, and peace cannot be achieved without a ceasefire and permanent peace in Gaza.

He stated that Türkiye stood with all its capabilities by Lebanon against the Israeli aggression and continued to provide humanitarian aid.

Erdogan stressed that Ankara will continue to contribute to the unity of the Lebanese people and their internal peace and stand against any attempt to target their stability.

Erdogan said that Israel has killed more than 4,000 Lebanese and displaced more than a million people to date, expressing his condolences to the families of the victims and mercy for the souls of the dead.

He pointed out that the Israeli attack on Lebanon was not the first, as Lebanon had been subjected to similar attacks in the past.

Erdogan stressed that whoever believes that he will increase his security by shedding blood, killing civilians and destroying them is "completely wrong."

He added, "We see that the Israeli government still does not understand this fact, or rather does not want to understand it."

Since November 27, a fragile ceasefire has prevailed, ending the mutual shelling between Israel and Hezbollah that began on October 8, 2023, and then turned into a full-scale war on September 23.

However, Israel has violated the agreement 249 times since it came into effect 21 days ago, resulting in a total of 30 deaths and 37 injuries, according to statistics from Anadolu Agency based on announcements from the Lebanese Ministry of Health and the Lebanese News Agency.
