Israeli army: Officer and soldier killed in Rafah battles
An Israeli army officer (35 years old) from the settlement of "Modi'in Re'ut", who was a company commander in the 7107th Engineering Battalion, "Nahal" Brigade, was killed, and another soldier was killed in the fighting taking place in the southern Gaza Strip, according to what the Israeli army spokesman announced on Tuesday.
The officer and the soldier were killed, and others were injured in an ambush during the ongoing battles in the city of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, according to Israeli media.
In addition to the killing of the officer and the soldier in the Rafah battles, two other soldiers were moderately wounded, according to the official Israeli radio.
According to Israeli media, the soldiers were ambushed after a previously booby-trapped building collapsed, resulting in deaths and injuries among their ranks. Israeli media did not provide further details about the incident.
This comes at a time when the resistance factions in the Gaza Strip, most notably the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades and the Al-Quds Brigades, continue to set up ambushes and carry out operations against Israeli forces, targeting military vehicles and soldiers and inflicting direct losses and injuries.
