Revealing medical conditions of prisoners in the Negev and Gilboa prisons
The Prisoners and Freed Prisoners Affairs Authority revealed, today, Sunday, a number of medical cases of prisoners held in the Negev and Gilboa prisons.
The Commission explained in a statement that among the cases: the case of prisoner Rashad Karajah, (61 years old), from the town of Safa/Ramallah, who is in the “Naqab” prison, who suffers from discs in his back before his arrest, but with the intensification of the cold in the Negev desert, the pain in his joints increases, and he also suffers from swelling in the Mahsham area for about two months, and he has lost about forty-five kilograms of his weight.
While prisoner Saeb Khamayseh from the city of Jenin, who is in the Negev prison, complains of the skin disease scabies since last August, and the disease has worsened with him significantly, as his condition reached the point on October 27, when he fell during a fit from the severity of the pain, in addition to the spread of boils in his body, and he lost about fifteen kilograms of his weight.
While prisoner Rafiq Kabaj, from Tulkarm/Al-Bireh, who is in Gilboa prison, suffers from a weakness in the pericardium, which causes him heart attacks. The prisoner was receiving treatment in the hospital before his arrest, and was receiving certain medications that regulate his heartbeat. Since his arrest, the prisoner has not received these medications, as the prison administration deliberately neglected him and did not provide him with the necessary treatment.
The Commission held the Israeli Prison Service fully responsible for the continued medical neglect of Palestinian detainees, and called on international institutions, human rights organizations, and the Red Cross to play their necessary role towards the issue of detainees in the best possible way.
