In response to a reporter's question on China's view on the current situation in Syria, Wang Yi said that China is following the recent severe unrest in Syria with great interest. China has long adhered to the policy of friendship and cooperation towards Syria, has not interfered in Syria's internal affairs, and respects the choice of the Syrian people. We support the early realization of peace in Syria, the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2254, the advancement of the national political process in accordance with the principle of "the leadership and ownership of the Syrian people", and the development of a reconstruction plan in line with the will of the people through inclusive dialogue. Syria should firmly reject terrorism and extremist forces in the future in whatever form. The international community should seriously safeguard Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity, respect Syria's ethnic and religious traditions, and let the Syrian people make decisions independently. Countries around the world should jointly extend a helping hand to Syria, and push for the lifting of the unilateral and illegal sanctions imposed on Syria for years, in order to alleviate the grave humanitarian situation in Syria.
