UNICEF calls for global action to stop the bloodshed of Gaza children

The Executive Director of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), Catherine Russell, said that the world continues to ignore it while the children of Gaza are exposed daily to bloodshed, hunger, disease and cold, as the Israeli war of genocide continues.

She added in a statement on Saturday about developments in the Gaza Strip that the attack on the Nuseirat camp in central Gaza on Thursday raised the number of children killed in Gaza during the past month to more than 160, at a rate of 4 children per day since the beginning of last November.

On Thursday, 40 Palestinians, including children and women, were killed and dozens were injured in the massacre committed by the Israeli army when it bombed a residential area in Nuseirat in Gaza.

Russell explained that children in Gaza “are not responsible for the situation, and they do not have the power to change it, but they are paying the highest price with their lives and their futures.”

She pointed out that more than 14,500 children were killed during the past 14 months, and that 1.1 million children need urgent protection and psychological support.

Russell stressed that the threat of famine still exists in northern Gaza, and that access to humanitarian aid is very limited.

She said children were facing shortages of food, clean water, medicine and winter clothing, with preventable diseases such as rashes and respiratory infections spreading.

“The world cannot remain indifferent while so many children suffer daily from blood, hunger, disease and cold,” Russell concluded.

With American support, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, leaving more than 151,000 Palestinian martyrs and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 11,000 missing, amid massive destruction and famine that killed dozens of children and the elderly, in one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the world.

Israel continues its massacres, ignoring two arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court on November 21 against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Galant, for committing war crimes and crimes against humanity against Palestinians in Gaza.
