qThe Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that one person was killed on Thursday as a result of an Israeli airstrike on the Khiam area near the border in southern Lebanon, hours after Washington announced Israel's withdrawal from the area and the Lebanese army replacing the withdrawing force.

The Lebanese Ministry of Health's Public Health Emergency Operations Center said in a statement that "the Israeli enemy's raid on the city of Khiam resulted in the death of one martyr and the injury of another person."

Lebanon's caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati announced in a statement on Thursday afternoon that "not even 24 hours had passed since the army began deploying in the areas of Khiyam and Marjeyoun in implementation of the ceasefire decision until the Israeli enemy resumed targeting the town of Khiyam with an airstrike that resulted in the deaths of martyrs and wounded."

On Thursday, the Israeli army committed 6 violations of the ceasefire with Hezbollah, bringing the number of Israeli violations of the ceasefire since it went into effect 15 days ago to 213, resulting in a total of 29 deaths and 32 injuries, according to statistics from Anadolu Agency based on announcements from the Lebanese Ministry of Health and the Lebanese News Agency.

For its part, the Israeli army announced in a statement that its aircraft attacked on Thursday a number of what it described as Hezbollah saboteurs "operating in the southern Lebanon area and posing a threat to Israeli citizens, violating the understandings between Israel and Lebanon," without specifying the area it attacked.

The statement stressed the Israeli army's commitment to "the understandings reached regarding the ceasefire in Lebanon."

On November 27, a fragile truce came into effect, after more than two months of open confrontation between Hezbollah and Israel, which left about 4,000 dead in Lebanon and caused widespread destruction in areas considered strongholds of the party. Several violations of the ceasefire have been recorded since it came into effect.

The withdrawal of Israeli forces is the first to be implemented within the framework of this agreement.

The agreement stipulates the withdrawal of the Israeli army from border areas in southern Lebanon within 60 days, and the strengthening of the Lebanese army and the United Nations force in the south, on the northern border of Israel.

Under the agreement, a five-member committee will monitor compliance with its provisions and deal with violations reported by each party.
