3 suspects arrested after two flares fired near Netanyahu's home
The Israeli police and the Shin Bet internal security service announced in a statement today, Sunday, the arrest of 3 suspects after two flares were fired, on Saturday evening, near the home of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who was not present there.
"During the night, three suspects were arrested for their involvement in the incident," which took place in Caesarea in central Israel, the statement quoted by Agence France-Presse said, noting that they will be subject to a joint investigation by the police and the Shin Bet.
No information has been released about the suspects' identities or motives.
The statement said the court ordered a 30-day ban on publishing information about the investigation or the identity of the suspects.
In turn, the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that one of the suspects who were arrested is a senior reserve officer in the Israeli army, who participated in previous protests against Netanyahu.
On Saturday, a statement from the police and the Shin Bet said that "two flares fell at around 19:30 (17:30 GMT) in the courtyard in front of the prime minister's home," explaining that Netanyahu and his family were not at home when this dangerous incident occurred.
The source of the two bombs has not been determined.
Israeli President Isaac Herzog condemned the incident, warning of an "escalation of violence."
"I just contacted the head of the Shin Bet and stressed the urgent need to investigate," he said on the X platform, and to hold the perpetrators accountable "quickly."
On October 22, a drone was launched toward the same residence, hitting a “facility” in Caesarea, the Prime Minister’s Office announced at the time.
Netanyahu, who was also not at his private residence at the time, accused Hezbollah, an ally of Iran, of trying to assassinate him and his wife, threatening Iran and its allied factions that they would pay a heavy price.
Three days later, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the attack.
