Two tents erected in preparation for the establishment of two settlement outposts in the West Bank

Today, Saturday, settlers set up two tents in the northern West Bank in preparation for the establishment of two new settlement outposts.

The settlers set up one of the two tents near the Ras al-Ain Bedouin community, adjacent to the Auja Spring, north of Jericho, and the other in the Khallet Khader area in the northern Jordan Valley.

Anadolu Agency quoted Hassan Malihat, supervisor of the Bedouin Defense Organization, as saying that the settlers had paved the land and installed a water tank as a prelude to controlling the land and establishing a settlement outpost there.

The agency also quoted Mutaz Basharat, the official in charge of the settlement resistance file, as saying that Israeli settlers set up a tent in the Khallet Khader area in the northern Jordan Valley in the West Bank.

Basharat added that the settlers had previously seized a water spring in the area, confiscated 5,000 square meters of land, and prevented Palestinians from entering it.

Setting up a tent or mobile home (caravan) is a method adopted by settlers in various areas of the West Bank, as a first step to establishing a settlement outpost in its place, then expanding it little by little, at the expense of neighboring Palestinian lands.

The settlers' move to establish two new settlement outposts comes as their attacks on Palestinians are escalating in many areas of the West Bank.

It also comes amid statements made by Israeli ministers calling for the annexation of the West Bank as US President-elect Donald Trump takes office in January.

Last May, the Israeli organization B'Tselem revealed a plan by Benjamin Netanyahu's government to displace shepherds and Palestinians from their lands in the West Bank in cooperation with settlers.

According to Israeli estimates, more than 720,000 settlers live in settlement outposts in the West Bank, including occupied East Jerusalem.
