Condemning Israel’s crimes and calling for a Palestinian state at the opening of the Riyadh Summit

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said that "Israel's persistence in its aggression against the Palestinian people hinders peace efforts."

In a speech during the opening of the Arab-Islamic summit in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, today, Monday, Bin Salman stressed the need to "continue joint efforts to establish a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital," and stressed the rejection of diminishing the role of the Palestinian Authority.

The Saudi Crown Prince reiterated his rejection of the genocide committed by Israel against the Palestinian people, denounced the prevention of UNRWA and the obstruction of relief organizations from providing aid, condemned the military operations targeting Lebanese territory and violating its sovereignty, and rejected the attacks on Iranian territory.

The summit will be attended by a number of leaders and presidents, including the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, and King Abdullah II of Jordan.

Also participating are Chairman of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, and Mohammad Reza, First Vice President of Iran.

Saudi Al-Ekhbariya channel reported that the summit will witness "the issuance of a final statement unanimously agreed upon by the 57 countries participating in the summit."

This summit comes as an "extension of the joint Arab-Islamic summit held in Riyadh on November 11, 2023," according to a statement by the Saudi Foreign Ministry yesterday.

One of the most important outcomes of last year’s summit was the establishment of a contact group on Gaza, including Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, Palestine, Indonesia and Nigeria. The contact group continues to work to stop the Israeli genocide in Gaza and reach a two-state solution.
